Dr. Steven KirshnerDr. Steven Kirshner is at the forefront of spinal surgery and patient-centric treatment. As one of the first surgeons to utilize "motion sparing technology," Dr. Kirshner's patients benefit from the advanced flexible spinal rod system, DYNESYS, and artificial disc replacement.

Dr. Kirshner is driven by evidence-based medicine. Since 1989, he has devoted his practice in Southern New Jersey to the accurate diagnosis and compassionate treatment of spinal disorders. He is fully committed to empowering and enabling patients with challenging injuries to get their lives BACK. He parlays the art of questioning and listening with the latest tools and techniques science offers.

Kirshner's ability to quickly adapt and master emerging technologies is widely recognized by his peers. He was the first spine surgeon in the region to insert an FDA-approved artificial disk in a patient.A decade later, Dr. Kirshner is still at the leading edge. He's often enlisted to train neurological and orthopedic spinal surgeons in the latest minimally invasive surgery techniques, new fusion technologies, flexible rod, non-fusion, and motion sparing technologies. Since 2007, Dr. Kirshner has trained surgeons in the U.S., Brussels, UK, France, Mexico, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Brazil, China and others. (Dr. Kirshner is committed to informing and educating all people suffering with spinal issues or back and neck problems. Toward this goal, Dr. Kirshner appears regularly on the "Sports Doctor Show" hosted by Crosskeys Therapy. To view excerpts from the show and other answers to popular patient questions click the BackTalk link.)

Dr. Kirshner topped off his own spinal surgery training at the highly respected Texas Institute of Spinal Disorders in Houston, but that didn't take the "Philly" out of him. Kirsh is Philly-area born, bred and educated – he completed his medical school, surgical internship and orthopedic surgery residency at Hahnemann University. As many Philly kids before him, Kirsh now enjoys life in Jersey. When he finds some free time, he makes the most of it with his beloved family, and fishing from the beach, a boat or his kayak. Though a man of science, Steven Kirshner is first a man of compassion and empathy who treats patients the way he would like his own family to be treated. (Further evidence of his compassion… he throws most of the fish he catches back! And, those fish marked for consumption, are not randomly filleted, but deboned via minimally invasive surgical techniques!)

When SJ Magazine polled the area's physicians to vote for the doctors they think hit all the right notes when it comes to providing healthcare, Dr. Kirshner was deemed a "Rock Star." >For more KSI newsmaking, check out our IN THE NEWS page or view some of our "SELFIE MOMENTS" at events for the community.
